ANTARCTICA – WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS AT HOME OR JUST WANT TO EXPAND THEIR MINDS

During this pandemic many countries have closed their schools and parents are faced with educating their children at home. Even where schools are still open, that could change at any time, and some parents have already taken their children out of school.

If you want your kids to learn something about Antarctica then this might be for you. Four organisations; the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the Royal Geographical Society (RGS), and the British Antarctic Territory (BAT) have joined forces to produce this online series of educational modules on Antarctica through this website ‘Discovering Antarctica’.

Perfect for bored kids and parents at their wits end. The site has videos, quizzes, and challenges that are quite fun (for adults too) so you could work through the site with your children and learn a lot in the process yourself. Even if you don’t have kids it’s a good site for learning about Antarctica.

Though set up for the British curriculum it seems to me it would be applicable in most countries’ school curriculums, given that Antarctica is becoming increasingly relevant and important.

Some of the topics the site covers are: Oceans, atmosphere, landscape, ecosystems, food web, science and exploration, tourism and they even have an Antarctic blog

Well worth a look if you want to expand your knowledge (and your children’s knowledge) of Antarctica. Use the link below:

If you are looking for something graded to the various age groups, then the Australian Antarctic Division has put together this site that provides lessons suited to students  from Year 3 till Year 8
